Well a lot has happened since we last wrote, but not the one thing we
were expecting. We are not any farther
down the river. We’re still at Aqua
Harbor. Repairs on the carburetor took
longer than expected so instead of being ready to leave on Thursday we were
held up until Saturday.
The mechanic finished up around 4 pm Friday afternoon. We were loaded up
and out of the marina Saturday by 10 am. We got about 6 miles down river and
the port tach started fluttering between 1800 and 1500 rpms. It would fall then
recover over and over. I had so many ideas about what the problem could be and
all are expensive.
We were just about to enter the Ten-Tom ditch, a 280' wide x 28 mile
canal that is clearly marked: absolutely no anchoring. We didn’t want to get in
there and lose the engine completely. So we returned to the dock at Aqua Harbor.
The shop was closed for the weekend but I did talk to the service
manager and was assured that the mechanic will be on our boat first thing
Monday. When we left the dock it was cold and cloudy. As we returned the sun
was breaking through the clouds. It would have been a good day to boat. Toward
evening it started raining again! According to the forecast it wasn’t raining
at the place we would have stopped for the night.
There must be some reason for all this aggravation. Pondering again in Iuka, Ms.
See ya on the water
